JNEC KRC (Library): A Symbiotic Engagement between the Seeker and the Provider

KRC (Knowledge Resources Center-Library) of MGMU JNEC is state of the art facility which has a huge and rich collection of books, journals and periodicals. The Library is spread over 1587 square meters across three floors with well designed furniture suited for long duration stay of students in reading rooms.

Home lending services are managed at the library for providing text books, reference books, and periodicals to Students, Researchers, and academic as well as non academic staff members. Conventional library service such as book bank scheme enable to provide a set of books at free of cost to students for the entire semester. Reading rooms are open to students for 24 hours during the period of preparatory leave which is peak time of library utilization and to keep students engaged in studies free snacks, tea and coffee are made available

Research work undertaken by students, research scholars, and faculty members are assisted by the extensive resources available at library. A frequent sharing of new arrivals’ details with the concerned departments helps in increasing awareness of users. To inculcate reading habit among all stakeholders, though being library of engineering college, dedicated storage facility is developed for non-academic books which include fictional novels, short-story books, poetry books and popular magazines of Marathi, Hindi and English. Another dedicated section is also utilized by students for reading national and local daily newspapers. Archives are maintained at the Library for record-keeping of useful and related newspapers clippings along with reprographic facility for hassle-free study experience.

Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) facility is implemented for searching and locating of books in the Library as well as students ERP Login credential which helps in quick retrieval of books. Time proven Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) system makes it easier for effective library management in terms of cataloguing of available books. This administrative initiative helps the Library staff to easily manage more than ninety-five thousand transactions of books annually with more than fifty thousand student visits in the library annually.

To avoid any academic loss which may arise due to non-availability of any reference book, the University has subscribed to DELNET (Developing Library Network) since 2012 which ensures the availability of books from other libraries across India through Inter-library Loan Service.

To keep pace with the evolving digital trends, JUNO ERP Library Module with integrated OPAC & Bar-coding system is used for quick transaction of books and for attendance records biometric fingerprint machine is used at the entrance of the library premises. Two mobile applications have been developed by the college to provide offline OPAC facility and retrieve university exam question papers from the archives. These apps are available on Google Play store namely ‘JNEC LIBRARY' and “ENGINEERING PAPERS”.

Dedicated web pages of the library provide basic orientation to users for effective utilization of library services. Digital Library and MOOC (Massive Online Open Courses) center has been established to access e-resources and online courses.

For checking similarity index of research articles and thesis, we are using OURIGINAL (Formerly URKUND) anti-plagiarism software to promote ethical research work by the students and researchers. It’s a moment of pride for the Librarian and the library teams as students attribute their success in academics or job placement to the dependable support of the library. In sum, libraries indeed, represent a symbiotic engagement of the seeker and the provider.
